Re: Willkommen!
Fri, December 3, 2004 - 2:33 PMI found out about the dolls from a friend, and she also found out from a friend on the internet. We all participate in discussions at a particular site that I wont whore out here.
The last time they were here I didnt really think they'd want my friend and I to participate.... hahaha. Our getting to the show was a mess, and we didnt have much in the way of cosutmes. My legs without stalkings - scary.
Next time they come to town, I'd like a little more communication to happen before the show. Something like 3 paydays before showtime rather than 5 days.
All in all it was excellent. I kinda wish it wasnt an all ages show, but that would have excluded some marvelous people.
Oh, and next time I'd like it to be at the croc, and not an early show. Curfews are lame.

Re: Willkommen!
Fri, December 3, 2004 - 3:10 PMI learned about the Dolls because I was a regular attendee of Amanda's parties where she and Brian made one of their first performances as a duo.
I participated in the 10/30 concert at Avalon in Boston both as a roving mime improvising in the midst of the crowd and as one of acts on the side stages in between Count Zero's and the Tiger Lillies' sets where I performed a short comic piece. 'twas fun! I uploaded a couple of performance photos from that night to my tribe gallery.

Re: Willkommen!
Fri, December 3, 2004 - 3:16 PMI'm Allison (a.k.a Miss Skin thanks to Melly) and I'm from Alberta in Canadaland. I found out about the dolls from the wonderful Miss Melissa B and I was supposed to come to the November 12th show in Seattle. Unfortunately, my mom got hospitalized because of a subdurral hematoma and just got out yesterday. She cried, because she wanted to see the dolls too.
I WOULD LIKE TO BE THERE next time they're in town :D

Sat, December 4, 2004 - 3:26 AMHi !!
I'm living in france and just join this tribe...
I saw the the Dolls for the second time three days ago.
I don't know if we can call that an artistic performance but I had a very good time by standing just a the room entry before the concert, dressed like painter with an easel, drawing a friend who was standing like statue...
The portrait was totaly unlike the model, I was painting flowers and butterflies, it was a bit surrealist...( or silly) but we laughted a lot and some specators too...
I'm waiting for the folowing one now!
Long live The PuNK Kabarett!
(please excuse my approximate english)
PS: Withney, you sang very very well! it was truly impressive! -

Sun, December 5, 2004 - 10:35 AMCole. I was introduced to the Dresden Dolls by kSea and then roped into performing at the Portland show by Ms. Whitney. This was of course after missing the first SF show and the New Orleans show. Damn work schedule!!
I was a human statue at that portland show.
I live in New Orleans most of the time.

Re: Willkommen!
Sat, December 4, 2004 - 11:19 AMHi, I go by Paco Fish. I'm 23, living in Baltimore, MD, USA. I heard about the Dolls through a friend, who linked me to their website and I fell instantly and deeply in love.
I saw them twice in Washington, DC. The second time, I dressed in a tuxedo and tophat, helped decorate the club, and spun ribbon poi on a little pedestal. But when my poi got tangled and broken, I blew bubbles around the club.
I'm sure the Dolls won't be back in the area for a while, so I probably won't be using this much, but I would like to connect with other DC/MD/NoVA people to talk of new brigade stuff for next time. I'd like to get some sort of organized dance or high-energy performance action going on, costumes, music, very carnivalesque ostentation, you know?

Sat, December 4, 2004 - 1:51 PMI was one of the puppets at the 10/30 Avalon show. We went on right after Ian. I discovered the Dolls when Amanda opened for Jarboe in Boston. Someday, I hope to hear her sing Pirate Jenny again.

Re: Willkommen!
Sat, December 4, 2004 - 2:25 PMi knew about them before i ever knew who they were, i think.
amanda used to throw a party at her house called hotel blanc. and i kept wanting to go, but the last time they ever did it i was totally sick and couldn't go. i was totally bummed, i didn't realize it was going to be the last one, but they didn't do it again.
i thought the whole concept --at least what i know of it, considering i didn't get to really see it-- was such a great idea. in fact....i'd love to do a party like that.
anyway.....i wanted to go. never got to, and then a few months later i was invited to a random house party, and i recognized the address from hotel blanc. that night i heard amanda play piano, and sing some kind of really melancholy irish ballad that made me cry. apparently she had a mailing list for a band. i signed up and that was that. -

Re: Willkommen!
Sat, December 4, 2004 - 9:43 PM> amanda used to throw a party at her house called hotel blanc.
Just to clarify things historically, Amanda organized a series of parties/happenings under the heading of "Shadow Box Collective"-- the top floor of this house has also been called "The Cloud Club" but I believe this name predates Amanda's moving into this house by several years (I had actually attended a few parties back in the mid '90s.) The place has long been the home of quirky artists in all media.
"Hotel Blanc" was a play that Amanda was working on, and the basic storytelling conceit is that the many connected events of different eras overlapped upon one another. One of the Shadow Box events was a fundraiser for "Hotel Blanc" that was to end with a short prelude to the play and then a party. The fundraiser was a performance in which a large cast of characters from different eras were all interacting (or not interacting) in the same space while the guests went through a scavenger hunt and witnessed this madness. I played a character from the future. -

Re: Willkommen!
Sun, December 5, 2004 - 6:34 AMO dear. I forgot to add some dates. The first Shadow Box event that I attended was in 2000 (though there may have been earlier ones.) The fundraiser for Hotel Blanc was in November of 2001. The production of the play, Hotel Blanc, was in either January or February of 2002. The last Shadow Box event at the Cloud Club that I know of was New Year's Eve 2002/2003. That's significant to me because it was the first time I had unleashed my whiteface persona on the public.

Sun, December 5, 2004 - 1:05 AM'Allo!
My name is Dave Haaz-Baroque and I run a volatile puppetry troupe called 'The Shadow Circus Creature Theatre'. My friend Josh first introduced me to the Dolls...
Our troupe held the opening slot for the Doll's first show in San Francisco at the Cafe Du Nord, and at their second show at the Music Hall we ran around with puppets and harassed people.

Re: Willkommen!
Sun, December 5, 2004 - 12:01 PMWho am I? Monica
Where am I? Portland, OR
What am I? A professional maskmaker with a brain full of multi-media performance fantasies. I also collect stripey stockings.
How did I hear about the dolls? Via the art of Cannibol, AKA Vince Packard. He build some wondeful art dolls of Brian and Amanda to stop-motion animate for a Perfect Fit video he is working on. I saw the art dolls first, thought they were wonderful, and then found out they were made to look like real people. Watched the Girl Anachronism video, and was smitten. -

Re: Willkommen!
Sun, December 5, 2004 - 12:07 PMOh, and I was also a Brigader at the Portland show. While I have studied a smattering of performace art styles (puppetry, mask performance, mime, modern dance, belly dance) I didn't feel any of those skills were ready to reveal to the public. So I distributed mardi gras beads and weird fortunes as a pseudo human statue/dancing doll character in a black and white costume.
Next time I might try to do something with pupperty though. -

Re: Willkommen!
Sun, December 5, 2004 - 1:08 PMCiao Ragazzi e ragazze, sono Sara Cowgirl, and okay, I'm dropping the italian as of.. now.
I hail from Northampton via Ann Arbor Mi. I heard about the Dolls from a good friend about two years ago, and went to see them when they came to play their first show in Noho a few months later. It was fantastic, and I wanted to wrap myself up in their music. So I did. I've since seen them in Mass several times, and in Detriot. At the Halloween ball in Northampton I dressed as the Jabberwocky and wrote limericks with my typewriter in the lobby, and gave them away to people. Whitney even has one about her foaming at the mouth and trying to bite me... but that's another story.
I would like to do fire tricks at the next dolls show, and I need to learn how to breath fire before I can do this. I'd also love to see them do some more shows in Michigan, both in Detriot, and in Ann Arbor, where I have been spreading the dolls love on trips home. I also may reprise my Jabberwock at some point.
Viva Lunghe il Punk Cabaret!!!

I am from Chicago but will be moving to Boston either next year or the one after that (long explanation).

of berkeley
a friend who I was doing photos with had their cd in the car. Loved it. A week later, I met Whitney, who was looking for performance folk. I was a human statue at the sf shows. A gargoyle at the second. as for the future, I'd just like to have as much fun the next time as I did last time!

First, I saw Amanda and Brian on the TV.First, I saw Amanda and Brian on the TV.
Tue, December 21, 2004 - 9:39 AMThen, I took my violin to the SF show and made friends with security.
Leo (man with cello) and I made some noise all over the place.
It was the best.
I'd like to see this sort of thing happen again and again and again so my plan is to be in San Diego on New Year's Eve.

Sun, December 26, 2004 - 10:24 AMAfter spending my childhood in South Africa and then going through puberty (and so on) living in Germany with my Portuguese/Italian family, I am (surprisingly) still here in Germany finishing my studies.
About a year ago another member of the "tribe", my loving-friend, Cyberpagan, introduced me to The Dresden Dolls, assuming that I would recognize the talent and artistry of the music - gosh dang - he was right! -

Tue, December 28, 2004 - 7:15 AMHello, I just joined 2 seconds ago. If you were at the last L.A show at the EL Ray, I was the one who hand tinted the black and white prints of flowers and then handed them out. I'm triyng to think of other stuff to do but so far I've got nothing.
I would be going to San Deigo for new years but I am a couple of months shy of the the required age.. Sucks hu?
That about does it, nothing more to say for now.
