[NYC] Circus performers/Vaudevillian Characters/Magician needed for music video shoot 5/20 & 5/21

Attention NYC-area Brigade members and other like-minded folk:

Art-pop independent musician Rachael Sage is shooting a video for her song "Vertigo" at The Slipper Room on the Lower East Side of Manhattan this coming Tuesday and Wednesday, May 21-22. (You can listen to the song in the player at http://www.rachaelsage.com, or on her MySpace: http://myspace.com/rachaelsage.) Like the Dresden Dolls, Rachael often performs in a duo with just herself on piano (the same kind as Amanda plays, come to think of it :) and accompanied by drums. :)

For the video we are looking for 12-15 Victorian/Vaudeville performer extras of this ilk to join us on the morning of May 20th:

- Clowns
- Mimes
- Puppeteers
- Ventriloquists
- Burlesque Performers
- Circus / Carnival / Freakshow -types
- a group of any of the above .... Think Moulin Rouge)

The shoot will be:
Call time 9:30 AM (all extras should arrive wardrobe and makeup-ready)
Shoot with Rachael 10 Am - 12 noon

* We can't pay, but we will feed you breakfast and you'll have a good time and get to be on a video that will get airplay in the US, UK and Europe (Rachael's last video was featured on LOGO and HBO, and a team in the UK is waiting to promote this one over there as well)!

Also, for May 21st we need:

[BOS] Auditions for Circus, Dance & Theater Performers

Calling all freaks! Actors, dancers, aerialists, contortionists, jugglers, acrobats, puppeteers, hula-hoopers, stilt walkers, acrobalancers, object manipulators, sideshow spectacles -- if you have a talent and a desire to perform, we want to see it!

The Madcap Rumpus Society is holding auditions for our spring show, to be performed in late April or May of 2008. The exuberant and talented Emperor Norton’s Stationary Marching Band ( www.myspace.com/ensmb ), a twelve-piece circus band gaining notoriety on the Greater Boston scene, will accompany us. The profits from the show, which come from a weekend run of 2-3 performances, will provide compensation to be shared among the cast and crew, as well as help to build a foundation for future productions.

We are looking for soloists & groups to create acts to fit into our show's framework, as well as ensemble members to work intensively as a group to create that framework. All performers should be able to work both independently and cooperatively with other artists and under the supervision of the show’s creative directors. Ensemble members will rehearse twice a month until March/April, when rehearsals will be held more frequently.

We are particularly seeking dancers, actors, and other theatrical & physical performers. Regardless of whether you have circus experience, if this project sounds interesting to you, we encourage you to audition.

Auditions will be held on Dec. 1 and 2. Email ringmaster@ensmb.com to schedule an appointment, or to find out more. Please bring a 3-5 minute piece demonstrating your technical and creative talents, as well as resumes, description of performance experience or artist’s statements if you have them.

The Dresden Dolls Present "Post-War Trade" and we need YOU, artists!

Hello Comrades:

In the many years of touring that I've done, one of the things i've been consistently impressed with is the high creative quality of the original artwork that people have brought to the shows in many forms. I can't tell you how many times i've seen someone with a handmade Dolls-inspired purse/shirt/lunchbox/duct-tape creation/thing and heard someone next to them say "you MADE that? can i PAY you to make ME one??"

so here it is, the age of over-inter-connectedness and the internet and it's time to change the world. I want to create an internet exchange forum in which really talented artists and artisans can directly reach out fans instead of posting photos their wares to the internet to get feedback. this is awesome but i would really like to see these artists making MONEY and doing BUSINESS with our fans. so it was that after years and years of discussion, the concept of Post-War Trade was born.

my good friend and fellow artist Katie Kay has agreed to take on the job of trying to organize this conceptual nightmare into a daydream reality, but we obviously can't do it without YOU. the main idea is to get as many artists and artisans as possible to submit their work, we will pick the stuff we think is amazing enough to be reproduced en masse, and the featured items will be sold on the net with the majority of the profit going back to the artist.

it's the DEMOCRATIC FUTURE OF MERCHANDISING! how AWESOME!!!!

it's like Gwen Stefani's L.A.M.B. fashion line without the.....horrible capitalist connotations? sweatshops? spandex?

no artist is too professional or amateur to get involved. ANYTHING GOES. that means anything. even spandex, for christ's sake!!!!
if you can make it, and we love it and think other people will love it, we will sell it.

Calling all designers, artists, craftspeople and anyone who has ever thought of being any of those!

The Dresden Dolls are happy to announce their latest project, /Post-War Trade./ After years of seeing the most amazing pieces of art come from fans, we felt the need to share with the world at large—it is just too beautiful to keep under wraps! The time has come to bridge the gap between artist and fan, making these lovely creations available to everyone.

We'd love to see your best work—everything from wallets to lampshades to pillowcases, large fine art to toothbrush holders, journals to tea-cozies, alligator-leashes to zebra-saddles. The sky is the limit, as long as it incorporates Dresden Dolls-inspired imagery, or the name of the new project, /Post-War Trade/. We will hand-select several pieces at a time, and each artist will have a biography and photo featured along with their listing, as well as a link to a personal website. Artists and products will be in rotation, each one being featured for 3-4 months per cycle. Payment will work on a consignment or percentage basis, depending on the situation. Post-War Trade will be responsible for all marketing, sales and shipping, with a check being issued to the artist at the end of their featured time. After we receive photos of possible items, potential artists will be asked to provide us with a high-quality sample and should be able to reproduce several of the item within an agreed upon period of time.

We are looking for every level of artist, fans of the band and people new to our world—from people newly creating to established, professional designers! Please pass this along to your favorite artists, friends or talented enemies.

We need some general craziness to add to our upcoming show. In particular, Stilt Dancers, Flag & poi spinners, Dancers, Acrobats, Living Statues and anyone that can add to a general atmosphere of fun and exuberance.

We are frantically putting together a show for Apr. 29th and have developed several routines with featured performers. However, we still need some people who can dive in and help add to the overall atmosphere of our performance, and work in support of the main acts.

Anyone with circus/sideshow/carnival/vaudeville skills or talents! Be they traditional or unconventional!

Our newly formed group is actively recruiting performers to join our little horde. The backbone of our project thus far is a gifted and rambunctious circus band, which has been working on the music that will be the foundation of this whole endeavor.

Our goal is to form a scale-able performance troupe that can draw on an array of people depending on what kind of gig we have lined up. We’ll be doing everything from guerrilla outdoor gigs to music club shows to larger scale productions. As such, we are on a mission to find some people that really want to join us in realizing this dream. We’re always going to be open to (and will often need) people that only perform with us on a show-to-show basis, but ideally we’ll have a ‘core’ group of performers at every show, and then we’ll expand and contract as needed.

We have our first gig lined up for April, and more planned for this spring and summer, so things are really getting off the ground. However, we are still gestating, so in adding your talents to our crew, you’ll be an important part in contributing to what we hope will become a tremendous force of entertainment here in Boston.

Looks like tonight’s show at the Warfield (SF) has been cancelled. There was a notice put up online via Live Nation saying this: “Panic! At the Disco regretfully announce that tonight's show at The Warfield in San Francisco has been cancelled due to a death in the family. The band will provide more information as soon as possible.” No playtime tonight. *sniff* Gonna go cry over a bottle of bourbon now…

New DD Single played on Live 105

So, on March 12th Live 105 played the new Dresden Dolls Single 'Sing' during Radio Sound Check (their new music showcase time-slot). If you guys haven't heard it yet (via means of the internet leak or otherwise) call the station and request it. . . it seemed to get pretty good reviews from the station people (whether or not that was just lip service is unknown).

Hey there, kitten people. I am an long time artist, whom is only recently deciding to make performance/costume/make-up my primary medium(s), and I think this sounds like a fun way/place/tribe to try out public spontanaety. What's the best way to get into this? I'm guessing to show up at a show dressed up, perhaps with an "act" or some such, but, does anyone have any advice?

Answering this to me may help others less vocal than I.

Hi all! This is the insane asylum nurse with the mop from the Columbus, OH Dolls show. I just wanted to thank you all for helping us raise enough money to get our van out of the impound. For those who didn't hear, as we were performing, our van was towed away and we had to drive back to Oberlin, OH that night!

So again, you are the most amazing fans! Thanks so much for all your love and support!!! As always, we had a fantastic time!!!

We are throwing a dark carnival at the Crypt Club in Everett, MA on Friday November 4th. If you haven't been there, it is absolutely amazing! So far we have two bands Dreamchild and Ultra Plush (my band), tarot readers, living statuary from Ten 31 Productions, bellydancers, glow stick poi, and magicians. We are looking for stilt dancers, contortionists, poi spinners (non-kerosene), jugglers, magicians, and anyone else of wonder or whimsy to perform at Spin THIS!. Next gig is Sat July 2 and then every 1st Sat.

We can offer a reliable performance resume reference, a drink on us, and discounted drinks the rest of the night. Adding to the guest list is a negotiable option as well. Performers will get credit on our website.

The Dresden Dolls are going to be appearing at an event at 'Grand Opening' (a female oriented sex shop in Brookline, MA) to promote a new
vibrator that responds to music and/or an ipod. This will not be a performance, they are just there to show their support Smile Why not show up and say hey? The event starts at 6pm.

calling all brigadiers

The Dresden Dolls will be shooting their first live DVD June 5, 2005, at
the Paradise Rock Club in boston. We need you to make it beautiful. We
want to see the best of the best of what the brigade can do and we have
very little time to prepare, so we're counting on your guys to use your
imaginations, let shit rip, come up with new ideas, make it big, and help
us create the most gorgeous and crazy live music DVD known to man. This
DVD is going to get printed and sold in the tens of thousands (or more)
all over the globe.

The deal: The show is FREE and tickets will go to the public next week.
Brigade folks get first grabs at the tickets, and we have set aside a huge handful just for you, so no pushin’ and shovin’, dig?. Please email Casey
thebrigade@dresdendolls.com ASAP - WITH DVD BRIGADE in the subject line
so that he can get the list going.
There will be many cameras everywhere and you must sign a release and be
comfortable with being filmed at all times. You will need to get to the
paradise EARLY that day (probably around 4 or 5) to attend a meeting with

the director. we will do a potluck dinner in the front room.

The whole DVD is being directed by the amazing Michael Pope (the same
genius who produced and directed Girl A and Coin-Op videos) so you MUST be
willing to take direction from him and take it seriously and quickly. We
ain't fuckin' around here. What he says goes that night.

Casey (love love love) will be in town and will be co-ordinating you guys
closely to make sure you all have what you need in terms of space, water,
light, etc. We are actually hiring a lighting designer JUST for the
brigade, ayayayayay!!!!

Also: We need people to help us load out after the show, and return rentals
the next morning. If you have a burning desire to lift things in the name
of art, please let Casey know.

We will be taking over THE ENTIRE CLUB (front room included) and are
trying to make the front room a private dressing/chillout room and bar for

all of you.

I run a fetish night, Fantasy Factory, @ Mnaray Club in Cambridge, MA. The theme for my june night is "Carnivale" and I need fabulously talented people to come and entertain! BRIGADE ALLOWED FOR NIN TOUR!!!

Okay, listen up. This is pretty amazing.

To make a long and beautiful story short, Trent Reznor went to the Dresden Dolls show in San Francisco the night before we played with them, loved the show, and from what Amanda told me especially loved the Dresden Dolls Brigade. We all busted our asses for this show, and all the hard work paid off in a way that we couldn’t have even expected – get this:

Trent has personally offered a few guest list spots to us at each show, specifically for the Brigade and its beautiful performers! As I’m sure you realize, this is enormous for The Dresden Dolls, and it is incredibly important that we live up to the standard the performers set at the S.F. show. I have tons of last second work in front of me, so I’m reaching out to all of you.

The really really important stuff:

This is not a Dresden Dolls show like you know them. This is a Nine Inch Nails show, and therefore the Brigade will have to be a bit different. I need to be incredibly selective in who we let on the list, but if you don’t get on it, it isn’t because we don’t love you with all of our hearts – it’s just that these shows are critical, as I’m sure you understand.

As there are only a few spots, it is very important that we get the ones who will fit these shows the best, and I’m mainly looking at professionalism, costuming (very important), visibility and odd and surreal performances.

The details are as thus, so you have a better idea: There will be a HUGE line, so we would want performers outside about 1/2 hour before doors entertaining them and coming in with the doors opening to continue until The Dresden Dolls go on, which is abut 1.5 hours. Then relax and watch the 45 minute DD set, and after that another 15(ish) minutes of performing and passing out Dresden Dolls CD samplers. We did this at the San Francisco shows, and people were literally lining up for the CD's. (This would be in the lobby area, or close to where they are doing their signing at intermission.) Then, enjoy the NIN show or just hang out. After the show, we would really appreciate it if the performers could then continue handing out the samplers. We like this because it associates the performers with The Dresden Dolls - not to take away from NIN, but this is us and we, and we try to portray a taste of what to expect at a DD show.

There won’t be backstage access, so you will need to get ready at home or in the bathroom at the venue. We did this at the SF show and it was no problem.

Good Day 7" single

I have the white vinyl 7" single with "Good Day" on "Side Amanda" and "Night at the Roses" on "Side Brian". Go hunt them down on ebay. I got mine for 45 bucks but theres only 500 and they're being sold one at a time and I've seen them go for anywhere between 45 and close to 70 bucks each. Mmm.

The studio recording of "Night of the Roses" is excellent and amazing and I love it. Squee.

Also, the vinyl comes with an awesome photograph of the dolls which is autographed by both Amanda and Brian. ^_^<3

What I would love from you, beautiful people, are photos of The Brigade in acion, getting ready, tying your shoe, whatever. Just some good Brigade pics.

Please let me know the location and date, who took the picture, and if we have permission to use it on the Dresden Dolls site.
We will definitely credit the professional photographers, and also have a list on the pace for other contributing photographers if I have my way, but I'm not sure about that one yet.

Brigade people in a band -- CD production!

Alright, it's official. I am starting a little record label called "Vaudeville Records". The first project I would like to work on is a CD of music by members of the Dresden Dolls Brigade. (right now im thinking itll be called "How to Stand Still and Move People", obviously taken from a how to type article Amanda wrote about being a living statue, and lemme know if that is alluding to anything else... but im very flexible right now about title. content comes first!)

This is a serious and thought out project. It will be a professionally produced CD in Jewel Box with booklet and (maybe) a video extra for putting the CD in the computer/DVD player. :)

If you're involved in the Dresden Dolls Brigade, or even if you're just a fan/consider them an influence, here's what I'm looking for:

1.) Name of your band
2.) members names and instruments/whatever. basically, all credits.
3.) how are you involved/connected to the brigade?
4.) website (please no myspace or similar pages unless it's literally all you have)
5.) contact information.
6.) direct link to up to 3 mp3s that you would like to be considered for submission. final drafts hopefully, but if i can raise enough money i might be able to have the entire thing mastered. still, a decent recording. (also, please no myspace links to music. i need direct mp3s)
7.) direct link to html or text files of the lyrics for all submitted songs
8.) OPTIONAL -- links to any art you would like to be considered to be included in the CD booklet. please note artist's name and contact information (even if its you, just for organizations sake).

This CD will likely cost about 2k to produce, because although they are not being produced in quantities of more than roughly 1000, I am serious about this project and it will be a very professional, beautiful example of the art yall create.

All music makers/bands/audio artists/etc who are included on the final arrangement will get a free CD for each member of their band!

Okay, I need some help from any of The Brigade.

Amanda & Brian are going into a meeting on Monday with their new business manager, and among other things, they will be discussing what my salary will be.

This is where I need your help. While my background in writing, sales and marketing enables me to write beautiful symphonies professing the benefits of a product or service, I've never been too good at writing about *me* - especially when it comes to proclaiming how good I am at something.

A&B see the results of what I do, but very seldom see all that happens behind the doors on this end of the computer, where, with your help,we create such incredible magic. In my conversation with Amanda the other day, she seemed to think it was only a couple hours a day that I did this - which is fine, as she simply doesn't know. It's my job to let her concentrate on things for the band, and she didn't need to know all that goes on behind the scenes - until now.

This talk with their Business Manager is a very important one, and I need to get her a very specific outline on what I do by Sunday night. The amount they decide to pay me will determine if I am able to keep on doing this full time, or need to step away from it (partially) in order to find something else to offer income.

I don't want to have to push this aside, even a little bit. I don't think I would be able to keep up.

If any of you have some good advice, a personal story where I came in and helped, a good testimonial about me and what I do, how incredibly amazing I am and how no-one could ever replace me - anything - please send it my way. ( email it to thebrigade@dresdendolls.com )

Casey here, your trusty Brigade Ringmaster.
Though you may not hear from me on the public boards often, rest assured that I’ve been chugging like a circus train behind the scenes, helping to orchestrate so much beauty for the upcoming tour it will make your eyes bulge out of your head and leave you speechless with a bit of drool dripping down from the corner of your mouth after you experience the final encore from Amanda & Brian and exit the doors of the venue you have chosen to see the show in.

As the Dresden Dolls grow, so does the caliber of the Brigade, and I thank you all for stepping up to the plate and growing with us. THAT is what we adore, and love to promote – not just for our shows, but hoping that the beautiful people who were inspired by the outlet we create (hopefully I’m not sounding too pretentious there) stretch their imagination realize that there is an entire world out there simply begging for their beauty – thirsting for it, needing it to infuse color and love into their grey lives. I have had the honor of receiving a number of emails from you, many of you who have performed for the first time, telling me how beautiful and life changing the experience was. Run with it. Nurture it. Make it grow inside.

Don’t stop.

what ?
we are looking for artists to help make creative merch for the dresden dolls. this includes: making stencils, handpainting/stenciling t-shirts & clothings, sewing stuff, decorating yo-yos, lampshades, frisbees, lunch boxes, music boxes, teacups, children, scissors, copies of "catcher in the rye", etc… to be sold on the web & at local shows. we are hoping to find a core of around 10 people to work collaboratively on ideas, techniques, and creative and weird ways of actually selling this merch.

when ?
starting as close to the beginning of summer as possible, within the first few weeks of may, to continue through the summer. we’ll be looking for someone to keep the surplus brigade alive for the months & years & decades to follow. when we have a group together, we’ll decide on meeting times – a few times a week for a few hours at the very least .

where ?
boston, in the south end, in a space dedicated to this workshop. it is a seven minute walk from the green line and a three minute walk from the orange line. you’ll have to be available all summer, and ideally be in the area year-round.

we will operate as a collective co-op. you’ll be paid based on what you make and what we sell. we want to pay you. really, we do. but it’s an experiment, so payment will be possible, but not promised. we will all sit down and figure this out together once the artists are in place.

Dear cabarades,

I felt like sharing a quick stream of my meandering loving thoughts with you.

Beautiful Emilie and I have been following most of the French tour, and will be attending another show in the south of France on Thursday. To say goodbye till next we meet, ay. Very Happy

Emilie was doing an incredible mime revue as an introduction to the show, which has left me in tears every night. Very Happy As far as I was concerned, I decided what I would do exactly on the day of the gig, improvising with the little I had and the few clothes I had brought with me (DI fuckin'Y!!). I'm eager to show you pictures of a cabaret girl stuck in a theatre-cartbox with the tiniest touch of herpes. Pictures of the "Eight Inches Bride" (I have no pretention it was just a funny reference to someone we know), delivering candy to the lovely French audience. Pictures of Moulin Rouge little darlings giving away flowers to people in Paris. And finally, pictures of some insanely innocent-looking maiden, blowing kisses and bubbles and. also.. Trying to stand still.

Emile and I are starting to statue from this very day. And I am so excited that I had to share this with all of you, as my heart is once again overfilled with love. I had the decency not to make it go under the "news" section though. Very Happy But I had to let you know.

Punk Cabaret IS, indeed, FREEDOM, my dear friends.

BEAUTY AND PRESENCE at the NIN shows!

Hello, beautiful people.

As you know, We are supporting Nine Inch Nails for ALL of their US tour dates, and something I would love to have is a huge showing of Dresden Dolls fans at the shows.

Normally, we gather a handful of people to do amazing, beautiful, creative things, and if you didn’t know it by now, these people are called “The Dresden Dolls Brigade”, and we usually are able to have some spots on the guest list for them. With the NIN, Coachella, and Bonaroo shows however, things are a tiny bit different - mainly, there is no guest list for us, at all.

You might see that as a bad thing, but I like to look at it this way; Now, as far as I’m concerned, any Dresden Dolls fan who is able to get tickets for these shows and wants to show their support – in even the smallest way – IS a part of The Brigade.

We would LOVE to have your presence there, as you know how
special Dresden Dolls shows are, and The Brigade helps give them that
extra magic that Amanda & Brian work their sweet asses off to create for us.
Dress up, pass out things, do impromptu performances, decorate the place with flowers when you get in the doors – and invite all of your friends who are fans of The Dresden Dolls to do the same. The more people who are there showing their support for The Dresden Dolls, the more fun it will be for all of us, and trust me – Amanda and Brian notice, and absolutely love it. You can even get dressed up AT the show, creating a performance out of that!

So, it pretty much comes down to this: You need to get a ticket, and

As of a couple hours ago I am the guy who be organizing and instigating the Brigade performers for the upcoming (mid Feb - mid March) shows across the sea.

I was wondering if anyone has an idea and desperately needs a voluptous mediocre bellydancer with customing and makeup experience to make it happen :)? As things in DD land grow and expand we find it more and more difficult to keep track of everything just by counting on our fingers and toes. Because of this we've decided to create a database of our illustrious performers from around the world.

So if you think you might ever want to be apart of The Brigade again, we'd love to have you fill out the stuff below and send it to thebrigade@dresdendolls.com - it'll only take a minute and will really help us.

It will be myself and 1 or two more of The Brigade, and we would need to be there by 8:00. I would *love* another performer (with a car) to be able to do this with us, as honestly - we need a ride, we would love to be there, and it's a long fucking walk.

Something tells me you wouldn't mind being there either.

Hey all,

I'm currently recruiting performers/brigaders for the band's Jan. and Feb. run. This includes the following cities:

Tempe
Santa Barbara
Sacramento
San Jose
New Haven
Philadelphia
Providence
Portland, ME

We'd love to have any and all levels of help. This ranges from living statues, to decorating, to professional burlesque acts.

As usual, our stipulations are:

--No fire inside the club (in fact, no fire outside of venues either unless
approved by me and the city fire marshal)
--No on-stage acts
--All performers must be approved by me beforehand

Otherwise, go nuts with your creativity!! Please contact me with ideas and inquiries.

it's nice to see all your smiling faces again, thank you for coming!

Becca, thank you for being the first to post some pics - everyone else, if you got em, post em! I would especially like to see pics of brigadiers in action, but pics of the dolls work to, as well as brigadiers in their other performances, or pics of things that inspire you to perform... anything really.

When the touring takes a halt and I can get pictures from amanda I'll try an post as many brigadier pictures as I can get my hands on.
